Plantar Fasciitis Treatment near Strathmore

Plantar Fasciitis is a common foot condition that causes pain in the heel and bottom of the foot. It occurs when the thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot becomes inflamed or irritated. It is very common, in fact the most common injury we treat with over 10% of people experiencing it in their lifetime.

Symptoms

Sharp, stabbing pain in the bottom of the heel that is usually worse in the morning or after long periods of rest.

Stiffness and discomfort in the heel or arch of the foot.

Pain can either worsens or settle with activity but typcially improves with rest.

Sore to touch around the base of the heel

Tenderness or swelling in the affected area.

How do we diagnose Plantar Fasciitis?

Once you come in, we can confirm the diagnosis through a thorough physical examination and a review of your medical history and foot mechanics. We may also recommend imaging tests such as X-rays or ultrasound to rule out other conditions.

How do we treat it?

Reducing the load on the heel through taping and shoe modifications.

Stretching exercises to improve flexibility and reduce tension in the plantar fascia.

Shockwave Therapy is one of the most effective treatments for plantar fasciitis.

Orthotic devices or supportive footwear may be prescribed to provide cushioning and arch support to offload the heel.

Manual therapies such as soft tissue massage, dry needling and mobilisation to reduce pain and encourage healing.

Rehabilitation exercises to strengthen the muscles of the foot and ankle.

Anti-inflammatory medications or corticosteroid injections to reduce pain and inflammation (if required).

Referral for surgery - to be avoided

What can you do to prevent it?

Maintain a healthy weight to reduce the load on your feet.

Choose supportive footwear with adequate arch support and cushioning.

Gradually increase activity levels to avoid overloading the plantar fascia too quickly.

Stretch regularly before and after exercise to keep the muscles and tendons flexible.

Seek help at the first signs of pain. The longer the pain has been present the longer it typically takes to resolve.

Matilda listens with the intent to understand what the issue is. My Planter Fasciitis was quickly identified with appropriate exercises prescribed. I am on my feet all day, so while the exercises helped me enormously and quickly, I needed to take the next step and order custom orthotics. For me, the benefit of attending Melbourne Podiatry Clinic was that Matilda had the technology on hand to take the dimensions of my feet without requiring a follow up appointment. And surprisingly, my insoles will be ready for collection the following week. I highly recommend Matilda and the wider team for their genuine care and extensive knowledge.

Incredible clinic with professional service. We saw Ms Warhurst who was knowledgeable and patient, took her time explaining care for the toe and performed an immediate cleaning and removal of ingrown toenail. I would highly recommend this clinic for podiatry.

I highly recommend Melbourne Podiatry Clinic Essendon. I've been seeing podiatrists for the last several years but unfortunately with no real results I'm happy with and no plan going forward. I've been seeing Adrienne at Melbourne Podiatry Essendon for a few short months and am very happy. She's worked out why I have these problems and has given me a plan going forward both of which I've never previously had. Thank you Adrienne for your help and wisdom!!!

I visited last week for a small procedure, super positive experience from start to finish. Brain was my podiatrist and I highly recommend him. Everyone at the clinic is so kind, professional and reassuring throughout the whole appointment. I also really appreciated being able to get a late-night appointment. The clinic itself is incredibly clean and modern. Couldn’t recommend Brian and the clinic more.

We had a very good experience at Melbourne Podiatry. I took my daughter to see Brian because she kept having ankle pain after playing badminton. On the first visit, Brian seemed to know what was the core issue and sent her for an x-ray. The result of the xray showed that what he suspected was true and then he recommended some exercises to address the issue. I really appreciate his experience and would recommend anyone that has foot issue to see Brian.

I highly recommend Conleth McShane at Melbourne Podiatry Clinic in Essendon. This was my first visit, and I left feeling fantastic after a small procedure. Conleth was friendly, professional, and took the time to explain everything clearly, which immediately put me at ease. His warm personality, smiling Irish eyes, and charming Irish accent made the whole experience even more enjoyable. A wonderful first impression, and I’ll certainly be returning.

A very positive experience - first appointment identified and rectified a toe nail problem. Follow up visit a few months later was for check-in and ongoing monitoring and (if necessary) adjustment. I will continue on this positive proactive plan. 👍🏻

Mia was the best and kindest podiatrist I’ve ever seen. She took the time to work with me and even made me feel less anxious then when I first walked in. I highly recommend you go here for podiatrist as it’s very worth it! I would absolutely always go back and I really appreciate how much Mia cares for her job and is the best at her job. Thank you so much!

Frequently Asked Questions

In some cases, mild plantar fasciitis may resolve with rest, proper footwear, and stretching exercises. However, persistent or severe cases often require professional treatment to alleviate symptoms and prevent recurrence.
Recovery time can vary depending on the severity of the condition and the effectiveness of treatment. With proper care, many people experience significant improvement within a few months. However, it may take up to a year for symptoms to fully resolve without treatment.
Not necessarily. It’s often important to modify your exercise routine to avoid activities that exacerbate the pain. Low-impact exercises such as swimming, cycling, or elliptical training may be better tolerated than high-impact activities like running or jumping. Consult with a podiatrist for personalised recommendations.
To prevent recurrence, it’s essential to maintain a healthy weight, wear appropriate footwear, and stretch regularly to keep the muscles and tendons flexible. Gradually increase activity levels (especially running) and avoid overloading the plantar fascia. Additionally, orthotic devices may be recommended by your podiatrist to provide a long-term management solution.
