The Best Running Shoes of 2020 so far!

Best Running Shoes of 2020

As we enter the second half of 2020, many of the new shoes released earlier in the year have had a chance to be road tested. Once again many regulars make the cut as they have for the last 10 years or so, but new technologies have seen some new names make the list as well. We’ve seen in the last 4 months most companies making a move into the carbon plate shoe market we can only imagine that soon enough those beasts will be making their way into our selection very soon. So here are the Melbourne Podiatry Clinic Top 5 Running Shoes for 2020:

Hoka Clifton 6

Hoka Clifton 6

Hoka’s Clifton 6 has worked its way back to the glory days of the original. Still slightly heavier than its predecessor the increased toe box height and width, and improved durability of the outsole in the latest model shows us why we fell in love with them in the first place.

The Clifton remains a highly cushioned lightweight running shoe with rocker bottom and a heel drop of only 5mm. Perfect for long-distance and recovery runs the Clifton truly earns its spot in our top 5.

ASICS GT 2000 v8

ASICS GT 2000 v8

The GT 2000 v8 has undergone a bit of a redesign and is proving popular as a result. The previous model was noted as quite stiff and hard underfoot, where recent updates have allowed for a much smoother ride due to improvements in the design of both the rear and forefoot cushioning systems as well as the slightly denser foam for medial support. The GT 2000 lands nicely in between the neutral Cumulus and the more supportive Kayano.

New Balance 1080 v10

New Balance 1080 v10

The 1080 remains New Balance’s premium neutral running shoe, however, recent updates have made it feel slightly different underfoot. The introduction of Fresh Foam X in the 1080 and the return of the HYPOKNIT has the shoe feeling firmer, slightly heavier and stable. Although the 1080 still rates highly amongst runners, if it has been your go-to shoe for a while it is recommended you try this model on in store before you buy.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20

The Adrenaline has been making top running shoe lists for over a decade and this time around it’s not much different. It maintains its previous support system and smooth ride associated with its guide rails but has lost a bit of weight thanks to the less layered mesh uppers that the previously. The Adrenaline remains a shoe for the longer distance runs as the weight is not suited to high-speed activities.

Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2

Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2

After more than 30 editions, the Nike Pegasus is one of the better-known running shoe on the market. An all-rounder that allowed people to complete high kilometres, the odd tempo session as well as gym workouts as well as looking good when going out to get coffee. So rather than mess with something that’s working so well, a separate entity was born – The Turbo.
The turbo has the same fit and feel of the original Pegasus but has the lightweight feeling of a racing flat – perfect for speed work!

So there are the top 5 runners for 2020. Honourable mentions have to go to Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next%, the most controversial shoe of the year that led to some very heated discussions and even a call for it to be banned. Mizuno Sky 3 also gets a mention, the removal of the wave plate that previously sat under the metatarsal joints allows for a smoother and more snappy ride.
