Back To School Foot Check Up

orthotics Strathamore

With Christmas out of the way and the school year kicking off, it won’t be long before the permission slips start flowing in for the extra curriculum activities such as the swimming carnival and athletics day.

From the time they start school, most children spend a great deal of time on their feet and this significantly increases as they get older, particularly once they start competitive sport. We often see niggles and injuries associated with growing but it’s important to make sure the structures which are getting your children from A to B (the feet and legs) are in good condition and not going to lead to any injuries or problems down the track. If you child starts complaining of sore, tired legs, you notice them limping or if they are struggling to keep up with their peers it is important you get them assessed.

Common issues you may see in your children include:

  • Intoeing – also known as being pigeon toed may result in regular tripping or leg pain
  • Heel Pain – commonly associate with growth spurts in young active children
  • Fatiguing/Sore Legs – is usually associated with mal-alignment.
  • Toe Walking – Walking on tippy toes may be the result of an ankle block or neurological issue.

Come and see our sports podiatrists Andrew and Jackson for a full assessment and peace of mind today.
